You’ve chosen your vocational discipline and found the place that’s right for you. Now there’s just one more little hurdle you have to jump over before your dreams come true. The application that gets you in. Keep reading to learn about what awaits you during the application process and what else you need to know.
step 1: Self-analysis
You want your application to be successful, so you should begin with yourself: What can I do well? What do I really want to do? Can I contribute my strong points in this job while developing my personality and my career? Please search for honest answers to these questions – for your own benefit and for the benefit of your application – and the more likely you are to get a vocational training at ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik. Provided of course that you can fulfill the requirements of your favorite job.
step 2: Your perfect application
Your application is our first opportunity to meet you. So you may want to go to great lengths to ensure that it looks perfect. Please prepare a pertinent cover letter in which you introduce yourself and explain to us why you want to have this particular vocational training position you’re applying for. Please tell us why you think your strong points really fit the job requirements. Please be succinct – no more than one page in DIN A4 format! Also include a chronological résumé that outlines your education, internships, and other training. (Don’t forget your contact details!) Speaking of lessons learned, copies of recent certificates, degrees, report cards, and any internship records you might have, definitely belong in your application. We especially appreciate social work in your spare time or additional training courses- so don't forget to point it out in your application.
step 3: Watch out for typing errors!
Relax. There’s a big difference between applying for an apprenticeship and for a corner office. And we know this is your first application. Having said that, don’t spoil your chances with us – whether applying online or on paper you should take care that your application is complete and does not contain any typing errors, smileys or the like. Ask your parents for help, or friends who’ve been through the process before. Four eyes are always better than two – in helping you to reach your goals.
step 4: E-Mail or mail?
In general, digital applications aren’t any different from printed ones. Especially for applications we established an online-tool, but we also accept your application by e-mail. Please give it a name that’s easy to understand, such as “Resume_YourName.doc”, and watch out that the size doesn’t exceed 2MB. You can find currently open positions and the respective contact persons by checking our job postings.
What happens during the application process?
If we think you’ve got potential, we’ll invite you to take a “placement test” so we can better assess your skills and background. Don’t worry, you’ll pass this test easily, if you’re clever. Next, we’ll ask you in for a face-to-face interview so we can get to know each other. And if you make a good impression on us, our company physician will give you a checkup to ensure you meet medical requirements. Now the only thing left is to sign the contract. We hope to see your application soon!
How can I prepare for tests and interviews?
First off: stay calm and just be yourself – trying to take on a different character doesn’t make sense. After all, we want to get to know you. So be yourself! Next: dress the part, and be on time – these are big! The first impression you make on our HR representative is often the one that tips the scales. Your clothing should be neat, appropriate, and business-like, but you still need to feel comfortable in it, otherwise you’ll sound and appear artificial. This and your punctuality demonstrate to us that you’re motivated and you take the meeting seriously. Second: find out more about your dream job. Where? On our Internet pages, through designated key contacts and Germany’s Federal Employment Agency site.
When do I have to submit my application?
To pull ahead in the race for a sought-after apprenticeship, burst out of the starting blocks early. Remember, the application process takes time. So send in your application before you graduate high school. Our online job exchange lists openings more than a year in advance. Also important: give yourself enough time to put together a complete application. It can take a few weeks.
